      Very easy to use, need motivation to cut out the rubbish

      Hi All, I am on the detox right now. I am end of day 2, I feel full of water! I have drank a lot and certainly used the loo a lot more. I have read about others who have lost weight and I would love to lose weight thanks to this Detox. I will keep you all posted at the end of the week and if I get a chance I will post again before then to let you know how I am getting on. I am almost 10stone and my comfortable wieght is 9 1/2 s I don't want to lose too much but I have never found it easy to say no to chocolate! I am almost 31 and have my first daughter in the last 3 years. I did lose my pregnancy weight very quickly I think thanks to Breast Feeding but since then I have found it much harder to keep the weight off! Anyway I am rambling and will be in touch at the end of the week, x

        detox your body

        Once in a while, usually after Christmas, I get it into my head that I should do a detox. I have tried the Boots' five day detox a few times in the past, and whilst I have always managed to complete it, I never enjoy it. But then are you supposed to enjoy a detox?
        I know I could just cut out all the toxins I ingest into my body and drink plenty of fluid which would probably detox me just as well; however I choose to buy a product because it contains all the daily requirements of vitamins I need. Without this I can't guarantee I would be eating enough variety to completely detox my poor body.

        The Boots five day detox plan comes in three flavours or strawberry, apple and original. The original has no flavour, and to be honest I choose this one because I opted for apple one year and it tasted even worse than one with no flavour if that makes sense.
        Buying the detox plan will cost £13.75 from Boots. In your packet you are given 5 vials of potion, otherwise known as the detox liquid which you need to mix with water, five tablets, and also an extensive leaflet which I recommend you reading before starting any detox plan.
        It's also important to remember at this point that you shouldn't do this detox if you are pregnant, or have a few other conditions that are mentioned in the leaflet.

        Using this product over the course of five days requires you to mix one vial of liquid with 1 litre of water each day. This needs to be drunk over the course of the day, as well as taking one tablet per day with some of the fluid.
        1 litre of water per day doesn't sound too bad at all. I found that looking at a 1 litre bottle started to put me off my day three and I would wonder if I was going to be able to drink it all in a day, so at this point I bought a smaller bottle of water, and poured the larger bottle into the smaller one over the course of the day. I found this way was better to drink it, and I found I managed it a lot better.

        I would recommend weighing yourself before starting this plan, just for your own benefit. It's good to know what if anything you'll love over five days by cutting out the rubbish from your diet.
        Remember at this point that by undertaking this plan, then you won't be able to drink alcohol, caffeine, smoke, or eat any of the rubbish foods that we all ingest on a daily basis. It's recommended that you follow a simple diet plan, of which there are some guidelines in the leaflet.
        Ideas include hot water with lemon for breakfast instead of coffee or tea, chicken and brown rice with plenty of vegetables for dinner, salads for lunch etc.

        I am always excited before starting a detox, but also a bit nervous as I never know if I am going to get through the week. For this reason I start on a Sunday or Monday so I can have the weekend free when I have finished.
        Day one I always manage to eat brilliantly and drink all the water, without struggling to finish it at the end of the evening.
        I find the tablets are small enough to swallow without causing me trouble. I'm not a great one for being able to swallow tablets but these seem fine.
        The water when mixed with the detox liquid goes a murky colour but I find if you shake it a bit, it does clear out again and the only way you know you're not drinking plain water is the taste.
        I found the taste of the apple one very sickly sweet and wasn't pleasant at all. The original that I drink has a taste but its non descript. It's not fruity and doesn't encourage your taste buds in any way, but it isn't all the bad either.
        I find the best way is to just swallow it and get it over with!

        By day three I generally have a head ache and I find this the turning point for me in the plan. This is the day I am fed up because my head is foggy. I know that this will pass and when it does I will start to feel a lot better but getting through this day is the hardest for me.
        Day four and I really want to eat a chocolate bar or a packet of crisps. By now the food I'm eating is boring me and I am eating for the sake of eating. Why carry on you ask? I carry on through because I know that my liver and kidneys will have been flushed out at the end of it so it will have done me good.
        Day five is hard but you know that the end is in sight. My head is always a lot clearer by this point, but I struggle to finish the water on the last day.

        Once the detox is over, I always have a nice glass of wine and some rubbish food the next day. I know that may sound pointless as to why I have done the detox in the first place but it sets my body back up again for the rubbish we all take in, and also most of the time it gets me back into the habit of drinking more water on a daily basis which is a good thing.
        The detox won't be for everyone, but I recommend it for a kick start to the year for your body.

          worth a try!

          I was never really sure if i believed in detoxes, but i had been eating and drinking a little too much of a alcohol/chocolate/general rubbish recently and thought my body could do with a break.
          with the boots 5 day detox i thought it would be quite achievable, as its just a few days, so i went for it.

          its really worth the money in my opinion... all you do is drink the daily liquid of vitamins & minerals and cut a few things from your diet.

          I cut out all chocolate,alcohol, dairy etc and ate lots of salad, fruit and soya yoghurts, lots of seeds and some soup.

          within 3 days i felt really energetic and after 5 i had lost 3lb, completely unexpectedly (I didnt do much exercise that week, so didn't expect any weight loss)

          so if you're looking to give your body a break and maybe shift a couple of annoying lb's, its worth the pennies.

          it's in no way a miracle weight loss cure... i think its always important to eat well, but if you're looking for a bit of a boost i think it's well worth it.

            i got the strawberry flavor... a major waste of money. i had to stop after day 2 because of the headache and dizziness. Taking the drink was like torture; i just could not get it down my throat.yeah, i did notice some change in my waist line, but it was not worth it. Will not be trying this again in a long while.......

            A great kick-start to a healthy diet

            The Product

            Boots Detox 5 Day Plan is available to buy from Boots stores or online at boots.com. It is available in original, apple, or strawberry flavours, and will set you back £6.75. It is a 5 day plan consisting of a phial of liquid and a tablet for each of the 5 days.


            Why I Bought It

            Even though I still live at home with my parents, whilst I’ve been working I’ve always bought all my own food, and generally had a healthy diet consisting of lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, salad, fish, and wholegrain pasta and rice. Unfortunately since I left work to become a poor student again, I’ve had to go back to paying a set amount towards grocery bills and eating whatever we have in. Even more unfortunately, my parents rarely buy any healthy food. So after practically living off sugary cereals, jam sandwiches, and pizza and chips for the last few weeks, I feel terrible. I have zero energy, have gained weight, am not sleeping properly, and keep getting headaches, and I’m sure it can only be down to my poor diet. So, when I saw this product whilst browsing the virtual shelves on boots.com, I decided to give it a go to see if it would have any kind of effect.


            The Packaging

            The product comes in a clear plastic case, with a plastic sleeve over it. The outer sleeve has all the product information on it, including directions for use and nutrition information, as well as product descriptions and ingredients.
            The plastic case has another plastic tray inside it, which is moulded to neatly house all the components of this 5 day plan.
            The case contains 5 brown glass phials with white screw top lids, and a blister-pack of 5 tablets.


            The Claims

            Boots claim that this ‘breakthrough formula’ uses carefully selected ingredients to work in harmony with your body, targeting your detoxifying organs, to help flush away toxins. This is supposed to leave you feeling purified and revitalised.


            Nutritional Info, Suitability and Warnings

            The nutritional values, per daily dose are, 500mg Vitamin C, 100mg Vitamin E, 25 mg Selenium, and 50mg Glutathione. It’s worth noting that this is 833% of your recommended daily allowance (RDA) of Vitamin C, and 1000% of your RDA of Vitamin E.
            This product is not recommended for children, or during pregnancy.
            The pack also warns not to exceed the stated daily intake, and that excessive consumption may produce laxative effects.


            Directions

            To use this 5 day plan, simply add the contents of one phial of liquid to 1 litre of water, take 1 tablet with some of the diluted liquid, and drink the rest throughout the day. Repeat this process each day for the 5 days.
            It is suggested that when you’re detoxing you should drink more fluid and adapt your diet to include more fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, brown rice, and wholemeal bread, and reduce your intake of dairy products, processed and convenience foods, tea, coffee, alcohol, sweets and chocolate. This is supposed to ‘optimise the detox process’.


            In Practice

            Right, first of all, I’m not changing my diet as suggested, as I want to see if this stuff actually does anything. It’s fair enough saying change your diet as well as using this, but then you’ll never know whether you could have got the same effects by simply changing your diet and not bothering with this at all.

            The phials are easy to open, and the liquid is a transparent yellowish colour (yep, pee coloured). When it’s added to water and stirred a couple of times it just makes the water look slightly cloudy. I made mine up in a litre jug, which I kept in the fridge and just poured myself a glass every now and then.

            I’d chosen the strawberry flavour, and though the liquid smells of strawberry before it’s added to water, it may as well not have been flavoured at all as it certainly doesn’t taste of strawberry. The diluted liquid simply tastes like sweetened water, and I can’t imagine the other flavours tasting any different. It’s not an unpleasant taste, but I certainly wouldn’t say I like it either.

            The tablets are white, and are about 10 x 5 x 2mm. I found them easy to swallow, and did not detect any unpleasant taste. I didn’t find it at all difficult to drink the litre of liquid during the day, as I always drink a lot of water anyway, but for those who don’t normally drink that much it may seem a bit of a chore.


            The Effects

            Day 1 - Needed to pee a lot more often than usual (this continued through the whole of the 5 days).
            Day 2 - No longer felt bloated. Lost 2lb in weight.
            Day 3 - Headaches subsided. Lost 1 lb in weight
            Day 4 - Had my first decent nights sleep in ages. Lost 1 lb in weight.
            Day 5 - Felt less run-down (probably due to getting proper sleep) and had more energy.

            So, as you can see, as well as feeling generally healthier than I have done recently, I lost a total of 4lb in weight during the 5 days on this plan, without changing my diet at all.


            The Conclusion

            Well, all in all I’d say this is a pretty good product. There were no negative effects, and it has made me feel healthier and happier. I would recommend, however, that it be used to kick-start a healthy eating plan, rather than used on it’s own, as I’m sure the effects would be much more dramatic and consistent when used in this way. I’m 100% convinced that it does make a difference, and I’d highly recommend you give it a go.

              I've heard a lot about detox - Carol Vorderman went well into it, producing her own books / videos and the likes, and you often hear of other celebrities taking the detox option to help them feel great. For a while now I've considered having a go myself, so last week I had a go, using the Boots 5 Day Detox Plan. The package you can purchase from boots costs £13.50. Within the plastic presentation box you'll find 5 phials containing a liquid, and a blister pack of 5 tablets, as well as a detox guide booklet. The detox package comes in two flavours - either strawberry, or apple. I chose apple. The Idea ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There's little information on the front of the box to explain the detox process however, this is what it does say: "Your body is designed to naturally flush out toxins. But a bus modern lifestyle can leave your system struggling to cope. Alcohol, pesticides and other toxins can all find their way into the body. Combat the effects with this 5 day plan that re-energises your detoxifying organs to leave you feeling revitalised." There's not much more additional information on the back of the box, except for a repeat of what was on the front of the box (though worded a little differently) and very brief instructions on how to use the phials and tablets. Additionally there's information on the nutritional information and ingredients. The Rules ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ First off, I wanted to know what I was going to be able to eat and drink during my time on the plan. The booklet gave a bit of advice on this, though not as much as I would have hoped. The booklet itself starts of by telling you the 'how, why and what' of detoxing, followed by 'the benefits of detoxing', followed by information on 'how detoxing works'. The next three pages basically advertise some of Boots' other products that compliment the detox process such as additional supplement
              s and products for the skin. Finally, I reach the page I really want to read - 'the essentials while detoxing'. First piece of advice offered by the book - drink more fluids. It advises to drink at least 1.5 litres (3 pints) per day. Next, change your diet - it advises to change to a more balanced diet as this can 'work wonders for your system and can also result in weight loss and increased energy levels'. The general advice is to eat and drink natural, fresh produce. The booklet goes on to list some good detoxifying foods. These are: - Fruit - fresh or dried - Vegetables - preferably raw or steamed - Nuts, pulses and seeds - Fish - Brown rice - Wholemeal bread - Olive, walnut or sesame oil - Garlic - Herbal teas - Fruit juice - preferably not made from concentrate - Vegetable juice It then lists things to avoid: - Dairy products (it states these are difficult to digest) - Red meat (again, difficult to digest) - Processed or convenience food - Artificially sweetened food - Tea, coffee and alcohol (as these dehydrate your body) - Sweets and chocolate The final piece of advice is that you should also try to stop smoking and avoid skoky environments. The rest of the booklet is dedicated to giving a bit of advice on taking the holistic approach (regular exercise, deep breathing and improving your environment), and advising on potential side effects, and a few FAQ's. There are a few side effects listed - common ones apparantly include: mild headaches, spots, increased bowel movements, a furry tongue, and lulls in energy. Doing the Detox ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ First off I took a shopping trip and stocked up on veg. There were some ingredients that I tend to eat on a regular basis that weren't really mentioned within the booklet - to be on the safe side and to get the most from my detox I avoided these (e.g. pasta). I'm a vegetari
              an, so missing out on the meat wasn't a problem for me. Each day the contents of one of the phials had to be mixed with one litre of water and drunk throughout the day. In addition, one of the tablets also had to be taken. There's not much info provided to tell you what these are or what they are for, though where the ingredients are listed it states 'Antioxidant Supplement' before listing all the ingredients for the contents of the phial and tablets, so I presume that the phial and tablets were basically supplements to aid your body in flushing out the toxins. The contents of the phial amount to 30ml, so when mixed with a litre of water the taste is fairly mild. The apple taste was quite pleasant and refreshing, not too unlike apple juice. I'd been worried that it would taste sickly and artificial, but fortunately it wasn't bad at all. I took the tablets daily at lunch time with a sip of the water/phial contents mixture. Throughout the five days I ate very healthily sticking to basic ingredients of vegetables, fruit, oats and wholemeal bread. Most mornings I ate porridge (made using either soya milk or water or a combination of the two). For lunch I'd tend to have a wholemeal bread roll, with something like mushrooms in. For tea I tended to have a vegetable bake of some sort, changing the types of vegetables I used each time - this was simple to produce, just a case of boiling or dry frying some veg (e.g. chopped leak, mushrooms, sweetcorn, cauliflower, broccoli, peas, carrots, green beans etc) mixing a bit of tinned chopped tomato with the veg I'd prepared, putting all the ingredients into an ovenproof dish and topping with a few wholemeal breadcrumbs. The Results ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Day one I didn't really feel any different. I didn't particularly feel hungry, and I enjoyed what I ate. Day two was pretty much the same. I still didn't really feel much different. On day three I
              got a couple of spots... possibly one of the side effects? Who knows, maybe it was just a coincidence, but I'd like to think it was a side effect of my body getting rid of toxins. By day three I also noticed I was actually feeling quite good - not a huge change, but I felt less sluggish. It was kind of strange, I hadn't particularly felt like I was sluggish before doing the detox, but I certainly felt less sluggish. I'd also lost a couple of pounds by day three too. Day four, and by the evening I really felt like I could do with a glass of wine with my evening meal, but I didn't lose my willpower and stuck to water. Day five, the final day, soon came around. I still had that feeling that I was less sluggish and had a bit more energy - we're not talking tons of hyperactive style energy, I was just feeling really good inside. Presumably then my detox had worked. By day 5 I'd also lost 6 pounds in total, so it's been a good 5 days from that respect too, especially as I'll be off on holiday soon, so any extra help with a bit of weight loss before donning the bikini is worthwhile! Post detox, starting mid way through what would have been day 6 and carrying on to days 7 and 8 I had a headache. I've no idea whether again this is a coincidence, or maybe it's my body adjusting to eating things like cheese and the odd piece of chocolate? I've not particularly over indulged on these foods, but still, can't help wondering whether it's a side effect or not. The Verdict ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm a bit cynical... The 5 Day Detox Plan cost me £13.50. Would I have achieved the same results had I just stuck to the same diet of plenty of fruit and veg and drinking only water for the week? It's something I'll have to try one day to see. I certainly found my 5 Day Detox beneficial, as I did end up feeling good, as well as a little bit lighter. I guess because of the good results I can't n
              ot recommend the product to anyone thinking of doing a detox, but as I've said, perhaps it's not really required? Detoxing isn't recommended on a regular basis, just a few times a year - I think that perhaps in four or six months or so I'll give detoxing a go again, though at the moment I'm undecided as to whether I'll buy the kit again or give it a go without. Rather than sit on the fence, for this review I am going to recommend the product, and I'll give it four stars - one knocked off for that thought in the back of my head. * * * *

                OK couldn't think of anything to go with the O and the X but my brain has been addled by the Detox process. OK you think you were hard done by doing the 5 day plan ladies (that went before me). Stand aside and make way for someone who survived the 28 day optimum version of the Boots detox plan. The difference between the 5/ 28 day plans is that you don't have to drink yeuchy gel in water (that sounded nasty) you just have to take two non offensive tablets that work their magic. However, I thought (or hoped) that this is all that would be involved; you pop a magic pill and low and behold your body is cleansed after a month. Er no, not quite. You have to give up everything, it's not fair! I mean tea? Isn't that supposed to be detoxifying. Chocolate?! But what about happy hormones. But the hitleresque instruction manual says they have to to go so they went. Now my reasons for wanting to detox are: I have been following a diet very successfully since January and have lost two and half stone (hurrah) but have lots more to lose. But was starting to flag a bit and enthusiasm waning so thought it might be a good point to kick my system into gear by doing this for a month and encourage me to maintain balanced diet during and after when I have a newly cleansed bod. I don't drink/ don't smoke so theoretically the rest should be a breeze. However, I did find it a bit too strict - even my facist diet allows a cup of tea every now and then - and I had major withdrawal symptoms. On the first day I jumped out of bed downed my pills and had a saintly hot water with a slice of lemon and porridge made with brambley apple (with illegal milk but hey ho) and felt extremely virtuous. Spent the rest of the day grazing on salad and Fruit and had trout and veg for evening meal. By early evening I was starving, fantasising about chocolate or anything sugary (haven't had that all the time I've been following
                my diet) and had a major throbbing headache. Thought I'd better not take any nurofen in case it messes with my inner cleansing so I suffered. Went to bed and thought my head was going to split in two and hardly slept due to continual throb. At 4am I got up and took some painkillers and then passed out on the sofa with exhaustion. The following morning I repeated my porridge and lemon water experience complete with tablets but was still feeling shaky and a bit spaced out when I moved anywhere, like I'd taken floating pills. Went shopping to fill my fridge with fresh fish and light meat and fresh veg galore but alas also bought two raspberry muffins with cream and scoffed both of them and washed them down with a cup of tea with loads of milk and three spoons of sugar (I never usually take sugar). Afterwards I reflected on this and decided that this was doing more harm than good and was encouraging some rather bad habits that were apparently acts of rebellion against silly regime. I have been following my own eating plan rigidly for three months without a hitch and five minutes on this and I'm cramming cakes down my gullet. Not good. I decide to be a little less draconian and continue with the tablets and general common sense tips but if I want a cup of tea I should have one. I didn't have one as of course that was the idea so after this first day lapse, I did fall into a porridge eating for breaky, salad or pasta for lunch and fresh fish and veg for dinner kind of gal. But found this a bit too boring to maintain for ever more. I have grown rather partial to hot water and lemon it has to be said so I think I'll hang on to that. Have also been drinking an abundance of water so my skin is looking v good and has lost it's grey tinge. I have also been doing a Ground Force-sque make over in my Garden with new found energy and have been feeling like a real nature chick. But my question is do you need to ta
                ke tablets to achieve this? Hmmmm. I think for those contemplating on doing this it might be wise just to cut out the rubbish in your diet yourself as the hard work is done by you not the pills. It may be that the pills do what they say and support the process by geeing up your system but I do have my reservations.....Not sure. Would be interested to read anyone else's experiences!

                  I tried.I really did,I gave it my best shot with this detox kit but I will never ever try it again. Day one and I'm out of bed rushing for the kitchen all eager to start my Detox. I open the package, take out the little metal phial, and as instructed I pour this strange smelling liquid into the required amount of water...and I take a sip...and I think 'not too bad,I can cope with this' So I pour it into my water bottle and take it to work to drink through the day. By midday, I never want to see,smell or taste this stuff ever again. I have been up and down to the 'little girls room' so many times each day that my work colleagues have suggested I move my desk to the corridor outside the loo!!! But, I persist(am I insane?)and manage to carry on for the whole 5 day plan. By the time it gets to Friday, my only hope of swallowing the liquid is to take a deep breath and get it all down in one go, somewhat impressive first thing in the morning, and that way I only spend half the day running to 'powder my nose!!' I did feel good about being so health concious, and I have to say I did lose a few pounds (but not enough to be very significant) But to be honest, after the constant bladder trouble (sorry, maybe too much info), the headaches(oh yeah, chocolate and caffeiene withdrawal headaches!!)and the awful liquid drink, I have decided that Detox is definitely not my thing!! So, could you pass me the choccy please!!

                    +++UPDATE+++ Three cheers for Boots who must have heeded the advice of my letter to them (and probably many others too) They have now introduced another flavour into the Boots 5 Day Detox range, a slightly more palatable strawberry. So now there's the choice of both Strawberry or Lime flavours! Hurrah for Boots, listening to the consumers!!! +++END OF UPDATE+++ I bought myself one of these little kits while out one fine day doing my routine shop in boots. Now, I'd been thinking about buying one for a while, but never quite got around to it. If I'm perfectly honest, I only really bought it at the time because there was a special offer on the advantage card points scheme giving me a whopping 500 points (the equivalent of a fiver off my next purchase in Boots) So, I've bought, my kit, feeling healthier already, I'm actually so excited about doing it that when I get back to the office after lunch I decide to take a look and see what I have just spent nearly 15quid on. Well, it's beautifully packaged, 5 silver glass phials and a pack of 5 tablets greet me when I open the clear box ? along with a small instruction manual for want of a better description. The phials are packaged in a soft foam outer casing, like little antique vases. The packaging is very similar to that of the Boot 'Botanics' range of toiletries. Ingredients are (Phial ingredients) Water, Glycerol, Flavourings, D L Alpha tocopheryl acetate, Ascorbic acid, Sodium citrate, Stabiliser (Xanthan gum), Citric acid, Sodium Chloride, Preservative (sorbic acid), Peppermint oil, Selenium amino acid chelate. (Tablet ingredients) Glutathione reduced form, Sorbitol, Microcrystalline cellulose, Anticaking agents (Magnesium stearate, Silicon dioxide) Nutritional information Typical values, per daily dose, %RDA Vitamin C, 500mg, 833 Vitamin E, 100mg, 1000 Selenium, 25ų
                    g Glutathione, 50 mg I bought this detox kit in about March, it's now nearly the end of May and I?ve only just got around to actually using it and if I?m honest, if I hadn't nearly run out of money for the month and thought I could afford to eat properly for the next two weeks I probably wouldn't be doing this now. There has been a reason every single week since I bought this kit for me not to do it, a dinner, someone's birthday a Wednesday (hey look I was fairly desperate not to do this) For the next five days, my diet is going to be seriously turned around ? no cheese or red meat (difficult to digest) no alcohol, no tea or coffee?!?!? Or chocolate, cakes, sugar or pretty much anything apart from fresh fruit and veg. Hence the reason, my darling husband and myself spent majority of yesterday (Sunday) in a local pizzeria eating them out of amongst other things, mozzarella and tomato salad, followed by the biggest cheesiest pizza I have ever seen (with extra parmesan) and plenty of beer, dessert and double espressos to follow. I figure that if I?m gonna detox, I may as well 'tox' first ? I?ve convinced myself I'd feel the benefit more this way. What is detoxing? I think of detoxing as the human equivalent of an oil change in your car. You change the oil when it?s dirty and used (hopefully more than I do) and your car runs better. This is what detoxing is. The 5 day kit is a booster kit to help your body eliminate the build-up of toxins that day-to-day modern life throws at you. Toxin's build up within our bodies due to smoking, drinking, sometimes even due to pesticides used in food production along with pollution. So hopefully be detoxing and eliminating as much of these things along with a swift change of diet, should give my body the chance to catch-up with all the horrible things I put in it and perform an (albeit late) spring clean. I'm sure that like a lot of things, it's down to your frame of mind as much as anything else. Thing is though, here's the deal ? I smoke (Shhhh.) and I don't think I am ready to give up just yet, certainly not at a time when I am depriving my body of the chocolate, crisps and beer that it desires so much. So this is the level I have chosen to suit my needs best. Remember, this is an individual thing, you are paying for it ? you decide! There's no point doing this detox (or any really) if it's going to make you miserable, so tailor it to suit your own needs. I wouldn?t ever go on a mushroom diet** and eat nothing but mushrooms no matter how good they were for me because I dislike them, but for someone out there, I'm sure that would be an ideal way to diet. **I have nothing against mushrooms, they are particularly cute in terms of vegetable's I dislike the taste and texture of them and should you like them, then please do not take offence at this comment. What happens when I detox? Well, the toxins in your body are carried around in your blood and so into your liver and because it's full of toxins, it works inefficiently and therefore you don't feel as wonderful as you could and know you should. By detoxing, you are stopping adding to the ever growing list of toxin's inside you and hopefully giving your body a chance to deal with the level of pollutants it has already without you adding any more. Diet I cannot stress this enough, this product is a SUPPLIMENT to your detoxing process, it is not a replacement for eating and should not be used as a diet. It is unsafe to deprive your body of food for 5 days and daft as though it may seem. After reading the instructions for this kit I would have to say it took several readings
                    to establish that I could eat. Well, we all know that we're supposed to drink 8 glasses of water a day (and no, lager, vodka & coffee although all made from water do NOT count towards your daily allowance. It is very important to drink plenty of fluids during your detox. Your body will only use as much as it needs, by drinking water regularly throughout the day you are assisting your body in it?s repairs. While detoxing, we are encouraged by the good people at Boots to 'change to a more balanced diet' this will assist with weight loss and increased energy levels. The following two lists are directly taken from the advisory leaflet that comes with the kit Good detoxifying foods include Fruit - fresh or dried Vegetables - preferably raw or steamed Nuts, pulses and seeds Fish Brown Rice Wholemeal Bread Olive, Walnut or sesame oil Garlic Herbal Teas Fruit juice - preferably not made from concentrate Things to avoid Dairy products (difficult to digest) Red meat (difficult to digest) Processed or convenience food Artificially sweetened food Tea, coffee & Alcohol (dehydrate your body) Sweets & chocolate I thought the best way to talk you through this is by means of a 'detox diary' so here goes. SUNDAY Weighed myself today, to say the least I was a little shocked. D-DAY whoops meant MONDAY Well, wake up all excited and still full from yesterday's cheese, pizza and alcohol binge feeling quite good, will be much better once I've got a cup of tea. Dagnamit. Hubby starts making me a cuppa and I remember I'm not allowed, so he kindly makes me the herbal version. Orange, Mango & Cinnamon, lovely, but NO substitute for the caffeine sugar and milk provided from the other kind. I weighed myself this morning and had a bit of a shock, I now officially weigh?.pah, like I'm telling you. I mix my first phial of detox stuff in a bottle with a litre of water. I'm thankful I mixed it in a bottle as the liquid is like a gel and needs a good shaking. I dutifully take my tablet from the kit with some of the liquid that even though it tastes watery has a distinctive limey, blackcurrant aftertaste, I HATE blackcurrant. I took half of the liquid to work and reserved some for when I got home. At work, sip liquid as required in-between which I drink about 2 litres of water. For lunch I have a salad of tomato's, lettuce and onion with a slice of wholemeal bread ? it's foul. I forgot that I was allowed olive oil and could have had dressing. Never mind. Had a cup of lemon herbal tea to cheer me up. I get dragged around Tescos, past the bakery and all it's delights and through the crisp, chocolate and beer sections also. I have to try to restrain myself from launching at this lovely snack food and shaking, go to the till to pay. For dinner I cheat a little after feeling like I missed out at lunch I use a teaspoon of olive oil to make homemade ratattuio that we eat with salmon fillets which are grilled with plenty of fresh pepper and rock salt. Hubby said dinner was delicious. I dislike fish so I wasn?t impressed. A glass of orange juice to wash this down and several glasses of water later I have a headache. I can hardly keep my eyes open. Is this due to the detox, I wonder. It hurts and I go to bed early. TUESDAY Another cup of orange & mango tea for me for breakfast. Made up my detox liquid and obediently take my tablet as directed. The liquid is not to my taste and I'm having trouble controlling my gag reflex. Hubby is very supportive, praising me, and singing because I've made it through one day already. I want to kill him. I'm sure he's hiding chocolate somewhere in the house. I brought three nectarines with me to work for lunch. I ended up buying a salad too I
                    threw it away it was horrid. I ate a banana in the end. I'm feeling very distant and dizzy and have got to go to the gym this evening. I don't think I'm going to make the whole five days. I do have mild 'discomfort' in my lower back; I think my kidneys are growing back!!! Went to the gym, hubby forgot his trainers (apparently) so only got in half an hour ? frankly that was enough. Homemade French onion soup for dinner. Found a tub of mint choc chip ice cream in Sainsbury's bought two! Can't eat them for another three days - had unbelievable uncontrollable hiccups for about an hour. WEDNESDAY Couldn't face the herbal tea this morning, had a glass of orange juice instead. Liquid is revolting still, but I calm myself with the knowledge that there's only two more days after this one. Feeling a bit better than yesterday, headache is coming and going. Had a cup of lemon tea this morning. Had fruit for lunch. Probably soup again for dinner. Ho-hum. Should have planned this a little better. Got bad hiccups again at work ? how embarrassing. Hubby rings me up to tell me proudly that he's bought me some more fruit in Tescos. GREAT! He says he's got enough for the next couple of days for me. I haven't eaten a whole piece of fruit since I was at school a few ahem years ago. A week ago, two pieces of fruit would have lasted me a lifetime. THURSDAY "One more day to go, One more day to go" Well my spirits have been lifted a bit by the fact that I?ve made it half way. I've had ample opportunity to cheat and I haven't which will make my eating proper food again all the more satisfying. FRIDAY Last day today ? hooray! I am feeling rather content with the fact that I made it. And in the process, lost about 11lbs in weight. Even the liquid is tolerable now (nearly) Am I going to keep up this new healthy lifestyle ? naghh? it was nice w
                    hile it lasted but I couldn't see me buying another detox kit. I think that if I had planned my diet a little better instead of stomping around a shop every evening stumped as to what to eat I might have been better prepared for this detox. This is definitely not the right thing for anybody with low willpower. I am VERY proud of myself for getting through these five days and if I never see another piece of fruit I will be a very happy Fishbulb. Was it worth it? I hear you cry, well, yes, it was, I learned a lot about my eating habits and the foods that I crave and yes, I even learnt to enjoy fruit (reluctantly) but I can't help but think that I might feel exactly the same way had I just changed my diet without buying the detox kit. I am a little thinner and lighter and I'm treating this kit as a 'kick start' to my weight loss curb and getting in more exercise at the gym. This is one of those things that you should probably do, just once, like a skydive. You'll either love it or hate it but either way you've done it and can cast your opinion out there to the masses.
