My poor Jack Russell has been through hell for over 8 days now! I bought a pack of Bob Martin flea tablets, for cats and small dogs from our local Pets at Home, and within a couple of hours of her having just 1 tablet she started to vomit non-stop, walk around as if searching for something, and shake violently, which has resulted in us to-ing and fro-ing to our vets for the past 8 days. We have had hardly a wink of sleep for fear she may die in the night, and after she had an xray and ultrasound yesterday, were told to say goodbye. She then went on to have an exploratory op today and the vet found a enlarged lymph node-not a tumour thankfully. But, the tablet is so powerful, it caused huge gastro problems, and acute pancreatitis. She is still not out of the woods, and I am so angry that something like this is allowed to be on the shelves of supermarkets etc. The vet bill so far is over £1000. PLEASE DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER BUYING ANY BOB MARTIN PRODUCTS. NOT EVEN WORTHY OF 1 STAR.
I have used loads of bob martin products on my cats. I have three house cats, who seem to be constantly covered, and have to be bathed (which is not appreciated, but only thing that seems to work). I have tried Frontline, and Bob Martin. I've used the b.m spot on type thing, flea collars, and spray, and they have not affected my cats at all. I'm not sure if you guys are posting from inside or outside the UK, i am in england, and my cats have not had problems with the products. They don't work, but certainly havent caused fits. I do feel very sorry for those who have, as i couldnt bear it to happen to my little babies!
If you are reading this because your cat it reacting WASH YOUR CAT IMMEDIATELY and take it to your nearest emergency vets. My cat came very close to death, foaming at the mouth shaking and twitching. Iif we had not washed her she would not have made the journey. It is very important that if the affects are bad that after washing her/him you go to the vets for more washes. The worst side affect is the fits, IF YOUR CAT IS FITTING TAKE THEM TO THE VETS.I have set up a facebook group to spread the word, please feel free to join and share with friends. It is called Bob Martin product information share, catchy x
I have been thoroughly disgusted while reading these reviews and feel much sympathy for the pet owners who have used this product unknowing of the dangers. I have been looking for an effective home flee killer, as my flat is infested. While searching online, I came across this product on many websites, and as this seemed to be one of the less expensive and more easily obtainable of these products (the infestation is so bad that I can't wait several days for a home delivery) I was just about ready to head to the store and pick some up. However, after reading these reviews, I certainly will not be buying this. Can anyone recommend an effective home flea killer that I can be sure won't harm my cat?
We have two siamese cats, who spend 99 percent of they're time indoors. We noticed our older siamese, back twitching, we checked her fur, couldn't see any fleas but to be on the safe side we thought we would give them both flea treatment as a precaution. we bought bob martin spot on from our local supermarket. Complied with the instructions on the pack. The younger one shes fine but the older one shes in a bad way. We've had many trips to the vets, on the first visit we explained the problem and that we had given her a flea treatment. Before we could say anything else our vet said did you use bob martin spot on. we looked at each other bemused. She explained that she has wanted bob martin spot on banned for a long time. That the product can cause death in cats and dogs. We were so shocked. Our older cat has large areas where her fur has fallen out, large angry weeping and bloody scabs. It looks like her skin has been burn't. We've tried all kinds of treatments to try and give her some relief. We're nearly 4 months down the line now, we can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. We've got to bath her a couple of times a week using a mild antibacterial soap then apply a antibacterial cream we got from the vet.
Since this has happened we have read lots of bad and upsetting reviews from other pet owners. Some even loosing their pets to this deadly product. She used to be a very social lap cat, but now spends most of her time hiding away not wanting anyone to touch her. We've phoned bob martin to tell them the problem we and other pet owners have had. They said that they sell a lot of this product and have never heard of any bad reviews. This is a lie. They seem more interested in the revenue they get for this product and not the welfare of these poor dogs and cats and there owners. I hope this is a warning to anyone out there, the symptons these poor pets get are so upsetting. Compared with others we were one of the lucky ones. This can be devestating.
Sadly as we could not purchase a flea collar we used Bob Martin spot On on our dog- he is 7 years old and has enjoyed perfect health until now - within 24 hours he was foaming at the mouth and trembling. We immediately bathed him in case he was having an allergic reaction to the spot on Bob Martin treatment. He is now - two months on - having seizures and fits, losing control of his bowl and bladder. It is quite horrible and I would not want any other dog owner to have this experience.
I've always used Frontline on my cats but wasn't able to get any at the point when my 18-month-old cat was due for her flea treatment. Thinking all the spot-on treatments were much the same, I picked up some Bob Martins instead and, following the instructions, applied it to the back of her neck. The next day, the area where I'd applied it was raw and bloody. It's now a week later and the area is no longer bleeding but is still raw and hairless. This stuff is dangerous and shouldn't be allowed on the shelves.
I am very concerened after reading the review below. Our housecat is just over a year and to our shock has got fleas. Perhaps abit naive of me but i thought a house cat would never get them but they can travel on clothing so came in from the outside somewhere.
The 1st we noticed was I kept getting bites all round my ankles, to begin with I didn't think it would be the cat and hadn't noticed excessive scratching. Gave it a couple more days and I was already to make an appointment with the doctors when I thought I will just double check and the evidence was there - fleas and flea droppings!
We immediatly went out and brought a brand we have used for other products such as cat litter and trusted. The brought the silent cat spray. The spray states it has 11 applications and each application should be about 16 squirts from a distance of 30cm whilst combing the hair back.
Our cat is pretty placid so we got him in a position ready really easily then the 1st squirt. I have to say it isn't silent at all and the cat didn't like it, but then you are spraying liquid onto them and what cat likes that! He did struggle but we managed to get a good number of squirts onto him, though not the full 16 as quoted as he was already pretty wet. We then towel dried off the excess as instructed which was a fun game.
You then need to wait another 72 hours before re-applying, which we did. We combed him each day with a flea comb and so far no dead fleas, just live ones. We have now put on our second application and will wait and see if this works.
Update - I was very worried with the other reviews so my partner decided to look more into this. He found that there is a chemical used in the Bob Martin flea products for dogs that is toxic to cats and can kill or seriously harm a cat. We have looked at Bob Martins dog products and they clearly state not to use on cats. The chemical found in the dog product are not present in the cat product, however, the cat product does say not to use on kittens or pregnant cats. My cat has had no bad reaction at all to the Bob Martin product. I have since spoken to my family who also owns cats and my mom has used the Bob Martin spot on for cats for the past year without a single problem. We also spoke to our vets about it and they state they are not aware of any deaths in relation to this product. The only reason they dont recommend it is because it doesn't work effectively. I do agree there, we used to lots of the silent spray on our cat and the another brand of carpet spray and still had just as many fleas. We have since brought the vets product and I think we are now starting to get somewhere. There are now dead flease coming off the cat or left where he has been. There are unfortunatly still some lives one nibbling on me but they are certaintly on the run now!
Hope the above update helps.
I used Bob Martin Spot On Flea Treatment on my as cat and he began scratching furioulsy over the next few weeks. I thought he might need another treatment but his condition worsened after a second aplication. I then noticed a bald patch between his shoulder blades where the solution had been applied. On checking various forums I was absolutely horrified to discover endless reports of animals that have died as a result of using this product. There are no warnings on the product about this. Please contact trading standards on 08454 040506 to report. This product must be taken off the shelf. You must also complain to store purchased from to stop them srocking the product.
I have just come back from the vets after having to have my 14 week old kitten put to sleep. I bought the product to help protect him from fleas and also put Bob Martins Carpet Powder down. He died of anaemia, the vet said because of fleas, he had not been himself since having the Spot On and I'm sure it brought his immune system down so that the fleas took a hold of him. We tried everything to get rid of them but he was too underweight for frontline so I purchased Bob Martin's, I thought this would be safe as its sold in Pets at Home and Asda but as soon as I put it on he started foaming at the mouth and was very low afterwards so took him to the vet thinking they would get rid of the fleas but instead put him down.
What a terrible product, I put it on my cat and four hours later he was foaming at the mouth, panting, had bright red skin that was bleeding in places, was sick twice and was walking around meowing like he was in so much pain. I was horrified and had no idea what to do. I read the reviews and washed him and he immediately seemed more comfortable. It didn't stop me getting a sleepless night worrying about my poor cat and what that sickening company's product had done to him. My heart goes out to the people whose poor pets have been killed by this product designed to make them more comfortable. Thank god I read their reviews as they have saved my cat. I will do whatever necessary to make sure this product is removed from shop shelves. They should be ashamed and made accountable for their actions.
DO NOT USE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i sprayed my cat with ''Bob Martin silent flea spray'' Lucky for me it wasn't silent at all and she ran a mile after 4 sprays (think it recomended something stupid like 16) The next morning I came down stairs expecting to be greated by Minnie...... not one sound.... 4x sick & 4x runny poop! she wouldn't eating or drinking and kept being sick. After reading this forum I saw that people had washed their cats. We gave our rather unhappy cat a bath, after i wrapped her in a towel and she went to sleep. She is now 100000% better. My advise is to wash this terrible deadly product off and tell all your friends etc how dangerous it is!!!! I believe this forum saved my cat! Thank you. I will be reporting to trading standards!
Please please don't use Bob Martins silent flea spray treatment. I used this product on my cat the other day and within hours he was getting very distressed and started foaming from his mouth. I took him to the emergency vets, where he was sedated. They had to wash all the treatment off him. He was kept in the vets overnight to keep an eye on him. If I hadn't of taken him when I did he could have started fitting and died. The vet said this produce should be banned. They get lots of cases involving Bob Martin products. If your animal has been affected in any way because of these treatments PLEASE PLEASE ring Trading Standards and get Bob Martin products off the shelves.
