“ Brand: Cussons / Type: Hand Gel / Subcategory: Moisturiser / Suitable for: Hand / What it does: Moisturizes, „
What with Christmas coming up and lots of lovely Christmas Dinners and parties - and the festive season in general! - I have been going out quite a bit and although I do not have OCD or anything I am trying to really keep my hands clean. I recently had an awful cold and I could do without having another one as life is far too fun and busy to be stuck home all sick and snotty lol!
Recently in Superdrug I saw a 50ml bottle of this antibacterial hand gel for about £1.40 which seemed reasonably priced (although it's teeny!) and I needed a replacement for my old tesco antibacterial gel. I actually bought the "sensitive" variety, which has the more updated Carex packaging as opposed to the picture above, and this gel is clear like water, unlike the green gel as indicated. The bottle is a small, plastic one and being only 50ml it easily fits in any handbag or clutch bag making it an excellent hygienic tool when out and about. Using the gel is simple, as clicking one side of the lid, on the opposite side pops up a small hole through which the gel can be squeezed through. It is ideal as huge amounts don't come squirting out (unless you are extremely forceful!) seeing as a small dollop is all you need!
The consistency of the gel is quite runny but it still does a good job at coating my hands and making me feel protected from any germs flying about! The gel is the usual antibacterial gel concept - a liquid that doesn't lather or linger but quickly soaks into the skin and kills away bacteria. I do not find this gel to be sticky or clammy, as it really does dry quickly but sometimes after wards I do find it quite moisture absorbing and my hands feel a bit dry and I need to then use hand lotion too!
I don't know what it is, but the only downside to this antibacterial gel is the scent, which is the same scent I have found with all antibacterial hand gels I have used, regardless of the brand! It has a strong smell, a bit bleachy and it just reminds me of a hospital, and pain, as the first thing my partner kept doing when I was in labour with our daughter was sanitising his hands! (I didn't notice it at the time mind you, being in xxcruciating pain and all, but my sister after pointed it out to me lol). Antibacterial gels really do smell of hospital sanitiser which is a very sterile and pungent smell which I am not too fond of.
Overall I would recommend this product for all the family, especially when little ones get in a bit of a sticky mess when out and about! The carex gel is really soft and gentle to skin, and also perfect for using on my 3 year olds, just keep in mind we have to moisturise our hands afterwards!
Recently, I've been getting a lot of viruses and thought this was down to my not-so-regular hand washing. I bought this to use when on the go so I could wash my hands where ever I was.
The hand gel comes in a small 50ml bottle. (My bottle of Carex Hand Gel looks different to the one on the picture). It's the perfect size to fit in my hand bag. There's a pull-off lid and a handy pump so its not a fuss to dispense the gel. On the front we are told the brand and what the product is. On the back there are the ingredients.
*Using The Product*
I like using this product because it smells nice. It has a scent of a lemon sweet and a cup of tea. That sounds off-putting but it's my opinion, Lol. It does smell rather good. To get the gel onto your hands, all you have to do is pump it out. In the bottle it looks a pale green colour, but once on your hand it doesn't have a colour. I was amazed at how quickly this dried. Usually, these hand gels take a while to dry and sometimes leave you with sticky fingers; this one didn't. My hands were dry within seconds.
After using this I'm left with soft, clean hands that smell delicious.
This is a great product for when you're on the go because its little and fits in your bag. I bought this for 97p from Bodycare which is great, but it could be more expensive from another drugstore or supermarket. There were other hand gels available, they all cost the same price but the others did contain more gel than 50ml, so this one was really the most expensive. I have found that this one is a better quality because it dries instantly and doesn't leave your hands with a sticky residue.
I love this stuff! I have a small bottle of it in my handbag at all times, which was just 99p from Asda! I used to work in a shop, and handling all that money, you noticed your hands got so dirty, and you never know who has had hold of the money before you, someone with flu or somthing equally as nasty. So I find my little bottle of carex fabulous!
Just one squirt on your hands and rub it in and your free from nasty bacteria. Sounds funny, but this winter I would have normally been dying of a cold at least once, but since using this I have barely even had a sniffle!!! I really think its due to this that I haven't suffered from anything nasty this winter!! When your walking around, you pick up bacteria on your hands which cause things like colds, and flu, and this can spread all around the house and family taking weeks (even months sometimes) for everyone to get over it completely.
But with something simple like this lying around you jusr squirt it on your hands and they're prefectly clean! Its perfect for if you work somewhere where you can't wash your hands much, or if your out in town and you touch something dirty you may need something like this!!
The only problems I can see with it, is when you first put it on, there is a VERY strong smell of alcohol...so be very careful if your boss is around and you put it on...they could mistake the alcohol smell on your hands for alcohol on your breath, the smell goes after a few seconds and leaves your hands smelling delish. Another problem with it is, it doesn't taste particularly nice, so if your using it then preparing food straight away or eating a sandwich for example, you may have an alcoholly taste in your mouth, like if you have perfume on your hands and you accidently put it in your mouth.
But, the taste also goes after a few minutes leaving your hands lovely, fresh and clean :-)
I have tried a couple of these type of hand gels. One from Sanex and another was Nutrogena i think. I currently have this Carex one though it is in a see through bottle - i think it might be the one for senstive skin. It is a very hand travel size bottle and i keep one in my handbag and one in my car at all times.
I intially started using antibacterial hand gel when i was working as a Speech therapist and it was very useful to be able to cleanse your hands between seeing one child and another without having to traipse around the school to the toilets to wash them.
Since then i've always kept one in my handbag and have lost count of the number of times it has come in useful, usually when out and about and you want to eat something but the public toilets nearby may not be amazingly clean. I always feel like i'm going to pick up more germs by washing my hands in a public toilet washbasin (taps, soap dispenser etc all touched by people who have not yet washed their hands! Not to mention touching the door handle on the way out!), so i often use this antibacterial hand gel instead.
It dries very quickly, you do not need to use much at all but i have to say despite this one saying it is moisturising i have found it to be nothing of the sort. It dries my hands out just as much as the other brands i have used. I think it is just the nature of these gels - i assume they have alcohol in them which dries in the air so quickly but also dries your skin. When i was using it 5 or 6 times a day in school it definately did dry my skin and my hands felt horrible. I still felt a lot better knowing i wasn't passing one child's germs on to another though so still used it. Now when i use it maybe once or twice a week sometimes less i have no ongoing problems - it dries your hands temporarily but a little bit of hand cream later on in the day sorts them out.
Excellent product - would thoroughly recommend, but it is easy to overuse if you are not careful and start worrying that you should be using it all the time as it does make you more aware of germs!

Carex Antibacterial Moisturising Hand Gel
- What is it? -
You put one or two squirts of the gel onto your hand, and rub your hands together, and instantly your hands are cleaned.
The gel is instant drying, so after you hav rubbed your hands together, the gel disappears leaving your hands feeling smooth and refreshed as well as clean smelling.
I bought this to take with me to Marrakech. We ate from the "open air restaurants" which to me and you were food stalls, we were given cutlery, but had read in the guide books that it is not cleaned, and more rinsed round in cold water before being reused for the next person.
So we took this gel with us when we ate there, and used it to wash the cutlery with.
Since Marrakech, I always carry the gel round with me in my handbag. In some ways it has made me more obsessed with washing my hands, and mentally evaluating how clean things possibly are in restaurants.
For instance, even if you wash your hands after you have used the toilets in a public place, usually you will have to turn the tap off, then open the door, possibly two doors before you leave them.
I know for a fact that a number of people don't wash their hands after using the toilet, so even though you have washed yours, you have then touched the doors that the dirty person has touched with their dirty hands.
Quite often you then sit down to eat.
This gel is ideal in those situations. Just squirt some on your hands, and rest assured that at least your hands are now free from antibacteria.
Shame you can't be so sure about the food you are about to eat eh?!
- Where can I buy it? -
I purchased mine in a supermarket for about £1.60. It is sold in chemists and other such shops as well.
Since having my first baby 14 weeks ago I have become more conscious about germs and cleanliness. Not that I wasn't clean before but then I only had me to worry about and not a small baby!!
It was my mother that introduced me to Carex hand gel, it is a gel that you squirt onto your hands and rub it in, it claims to kill 99.9% of germs so is basically the same as washing your hands with soap and water. They have this antibacterial gel in hospitals now, usually on the end of each bed.
I bought a 50ml bottle from Sainsburys for 99p, the bottle is small and clear and has a pump action top with a clear plastic lid. I chose the aloe vera hand gel, there was also a fragrance free, sensitive one. The gel for the aloe vera is a pale green in colour. It has the Carex logo in blue on the front of the bottle and at the top of the bottle it says that the bottle contains 100 applications.
Whenever you want to clean your hands all you need to do is squirt roughly 4 pumps of the gel into your hands, rub together as if it was soap and it dries within seconds, hey presto your hands are lovely and clean!
I found that this product is excellent as it is so quick and easy to use, for instance when I change my son's nappy I can just squirt this into my hands and they are clean, which saves me a trip upstairs to the bathroom to wash them. I also use it before I prepare his feed so I know I won't contaminate it with any germs. I especially like it as it is small enough to fit into your handbag, so you can carry it around with you and use it when you go to a public toilet that may not have very good washing facilities.
I went back and bought another bottle to keep in the bathroom, now I have one in there and one in my handbag!!
After having my 2nd baby I was pleased to receive the usual complimentary Bounty Pack which contained all the usual goodies but on this occasion I was interested in a new product that they were giving out which was a full sized bottle of Cussons Carex Antibacterial Moisturising hand gel. Apart from having an extremely long title it claims to clean and protect your hands without having the need for water. I have been using this product for about a month now and although I am happy that it maybe killing all the nasty germs on my hands I am dissapointed in that my hands still feel dry all the time. The gel is handy to keep in your changing bag after all those nappy changes as there isnt always a sink around when you need it and the product also comes in a handy travel size which is useful. But I am annoyed that it isnt as moisturising as it claims to be. Maybe it is my skin that has the problem..and maybe others out there could clarify this for me but I do continue to use it for its usefulness. The gel gives your hands a strange cool sensation when applied which allows you to sense the parts you may have missed!
I dont know about you but I suffer from very dry skin and sometimes find it very hard to cope with especially as I have a small baby and keep having to wash my hands all the time to prevent the spread of those nasty germs. Well I think I have found the answer! Why not give carex antibacterial mosturising hand gel a try. It kills unwanted germs, removes nasty cooking odours in a single use, protects against germs for upto six hours. I have found that it leaves my hands soft and smells lovely. You just rub a little into your hands and you dont even wash it off. Its also brilliant if your hands are hot as when you put carex on it cools your hands down and they feel great and very fresh. I use this product on my whole family,my little girl says that it smells nice. Its suitable for sensitive skin and is ph neutral, dermataologically tested. What more could I ask for! A great handcare product for all.
